- About usAt CatalystBreakthru, we have a team of well qualified and experienced coaches and mental health professionals. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our directors. Say hello to Pedro and Emmaline: Pedro Diaz BSW, MAASW Pedro knows full well what it is to live with a mental illness. For over 10 years Pedro suffered from bipolar disorder. He knows what it feels like to wake up in the morning with a feeling of dread and hopelessness. To hear your children’s laughter as they play and not be able to share in their joy. This was Pedro’s reality for more than 10 years. These, and many experiences alike, have shaped his passion into what it is today. The past 20 years of Pedro’s life have been devoted to the development of people in both a personal development and therapeutic capacity. He has worked extensively with individuals keen on developing themselves, as well as those suffering from mental illness. Pedro has extensive experience in working with people. He is a very experienced and effective therapist and coach who loves seeing people transform not only their lives but the lives of others. Pedro is as experienced a trainer as he is a practitioner, equally at home in front of a group as he is one-on-one. Pedro is considered by many as one of Australia’s leading recovery specialists. In his work with Mental Health organisations, he has lead the design and implementation of innovative and results oriented programs. These programs have managed to attract funding and positive attention. In addition to having a Bachelor of Social Work, Pedro is a Collaborative Recovery Model Trainer, a trainer of the Mental Health First Aid, a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Trainer and a Certified Ericksonian Hypnotherapist. Pedro is also a Visiting Fellow at the University of Wollongong, and Field Educator for the Australian Catholic University. A Healthy Approach To Stress!
Stress has become a very popular complaint in our times. People are often overheard complaining about suffering stress because of this and that. So, what is ‘Stress’? For many, even for health professionals, pressure and stress have become synonymous. Yet, …

It’s that time of year…. Christmas (and all the family, festivities and frustrations that go with it) have come and gone. What now? We start preparing for the next big thing – New Year’s celebrations! For many people, the planning doesn’t go beyond New Year’s Eve itself – where to go, who with, and what to wear…. This is a …
Let’s Talk About Sex…and Other Things
Traditionally, psychotherapy (including psychology and counselling) has focused on a person’s signs and symptoms across a range of mental, emotional, physical and social aspects of a person’s life. Their needs and issues are often spoken about in terms of broad categories such as mental, emotional, physical and social. Sadly, but unsurprisingly, two of the most important areas suffer from neglect …
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
What a year it has been! We saw all sorts of major environmental events happening all over the world, including here at home in Australia. Queensland, and Brisbane in particular, copped a blasting from Mother Nature! That made us think about the nature of Nature. What can seem like a total disaster at one point in time, creates all sorts …
Have you heard the latest Secret?
Well, have you? Whether it’s the movie or the book, most of us have heard about the Law of Attraction or the Attractor Factor. Basically, your energy attracts ‘stuff’. Some of it good, some average and some not so good. The common explanation of this is very directional – bringing energy in. But, what about the other part of the …
People mirrors
Ever been accused of something that didn’t quite make sense? or came ‘out of left field’? Perhaps you’ve been in a conversation with a friend and out of the blue they say something like “you are so controlling!” or “you are so judgemental!” By the same token, you could be in conversation with someone and unexpectedly they might say “I …
Mind FULL or mindful life?
In our work at CatalystBreakthru, we notice an insidious cause of suffering in our society. It is people’s use of their brains. Or rather ‘how’ they use their brains. We tend to idolise the capacity to be smart and intelligent. We will applaud the use of the brain to collect vast amounts of information and recall that at will. While there might …
Are you addicted? …to misery?
Giving Your Power Away Series – 5/5 For the final in our series ‘Giving your power away’, we look at a very pervasive way you can give your power away. This is an addiction more strongly felt than any drug addiction: the addiction to misery. We have a culture-wide addiction to misery. As a society, we seem to be fascinated …
The good old days???
Giving Your Power Away Series – 4/5 Have you ever met someone who is constantly telling others how good life used to be? Perhaps they were ‘important’ once, they might have held an ‘influential’ job or had some kind of ‘special’ status; they might have been loved by a woman or a man who was incredibly beautiful, handsome, intelligent or somehow …
When being ordinary is good for you.
Giving Your Power Away Series – 3/5 Ever thought of doing something, creating a collection or making something – an artwork, a poem, a meal – but then not actually doing it because you think to yourself something along the lines of, “there are other people ‘out there’ who can do this better than I can, what’s the point”? This …
